Version 2026-09-01. Last updated 9 September 2026.
The short version. The passage you paste or photograph is processed on your phone and is never uploaded to us. It cannot be published, even by accident. What leaves your device is only a ParaLaff you deliberately publish — and only ones built from our public-domain library can be published at all.
ParaLaff tags parts of speech using a model that runs on your phone. Text you paste, type, or capture with the camera is analysed locally. It is not sent to our servers, and there is no Publish button for it. You can play it, hear it read aloud, and export a share card or video — all on the device.
Publishing is optional and explicit. When you publish a ParaLaff we store the passage (which is always public-domain library text), the words you filled in, the title you chose, your account identifier, and the time.
Signing in uses Apple or Google. We receive an identifier for you from that provider; we do not receive or store your password. We store the handle, display name, bio and profile picture you choose. Your profile picture is held in Firebase Storage.
If you report a ParaLaff, a comment or an account, we store the report, the reason, any note you write, and who filed it — so that we can act on it, and so that repeated bad-faith reporting is visible to us. If you block someone, we store that too. Reports are retained after they are resolved as a record of the decision.
ParaLaff is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will close it and delete the associated data.
You can close your account from within the app, or by writing to support@paralaff.app. Closing an account removes your published ParaLaffs from the feed. We retain moderation records where we are required to, or where they document a decision about another person's report.
